In 1979, Renault acquired AMC, which owned Jeep. The new AMC-Jeep-Renault group gave the French manufacturer a foothold in the American market and enabled it to distribute the Jeep range in Europe. Despite Chrysler's acquisition of this entity in 1987, Renault continued to distribute Jeeps in Europe, including the famous Cherokee XJ! As a result, one of the most beautiful American 4x4s of the 1980s, and certainly the best known, was available in Europe in several trim levels, including the āLimited.ā This high-end trim level was distinguished by its exclusive colors, gold piping on the sides, 15" gold wheels, 4-speed automatic transmission, and numerous standard features.
